GLS Lighting
Flight case and fixture identification labels for a professional dry-hire lighting company — durable graphics that keep a touring hire fleet identified and organised show after show.
The Customer
GLS Lighting is a UK-based lighting hire and dry-hire company supplying fixtures, control systems and rigging to the live entertainment industry. Their inventory covers moving heads, conventional fixtures, LED panels, control desks and the flight cases that protect and transport them across the UK and Europe.
The Challenge
A dry-hire lighting fleet needs clear, durable labelling at three levels: the flight cases (which must show contents, case number and customer-facing branding), the fixtures inside (which must show fixture type, universe and DMX address for the hirer's LD), and the cables (which must identify universe and connector type).
Off-the-shelf printed tape and budget labels work for a single show but fail rapidly in commercial touring conditions — adhesive fails from vibration and temperature change, print abrades in packed flight cases, and edges lift and catch on other equipment. GLS needed labels that would survive the full hire lifecycle of each case without needing replacement between jobs.
The Solution
Adcal Labels supplied reverse-printed 450 mic gloss PVC flight case labels and polyester fixture identification labels. The flight case labels carry GLS Lighting branding and case reference numbers; the fixture labels carry universe colour-coding, fixture type and individual asset numbers for inventory management.
All labels are produced with high-tack permanent adhesive on a surface primer appropriate to the substrate of each case and fixture. The reverse-print construction on the flight case labels means the print layer is permanently protected — the vivid colours are sealed behind clear PVC and cannot be scratched or abraded by flight case fasteners, straps or other equipment.
