Security Label Types
Security labels work by making tampering evident — either by leaving an indelible mark on the surface, destroying themselves on removal, or carrying authentication features that are difficult or impossible to copy. The right type depends on the threat you are protecting against and the surface the label is applied to.
Void Security Labels
Leave a 'VOID' or 'OPENED' pattern on the surface when removed — visible evidence of tampering. Available in silver, gold, white and clear.
Destructible Vinyl Stickers
Shatter into pieces on attempted removal, making clean peel-off impossible. Ideal for asset tagging where removal must be visible.
Ultra-Destructible Labels
Paper-thin vinyl that tears apart on any removal attempt, leaving fragments that are impossible to reassemble.
Holographic Security Stickers
Custom rainbow hologram foil. Difficult to counterfeit, highly visible at point of sale. Available with serialisation.
Serialised Security Labels
Sequential numbering, unique barcodes or QR codes on each label. Pairs with void or holographic construction for maximum security.
High-Bond Tamper-Evident Seals
Clear or printed polycarbonate seals that bridge joints on cartons and packaging. Attempt to open the pack and the seal tears permanently.
When Do You Need Security Labels?
Retail security labels address two distinct problems. The first is tampering — a customer opening packaging in-store to inspect or remove the product before purchase, then returning the empty package for a refund. Void seals and tamper-evident labels make this impossible to do invisibly.
The second is counterfeiting — a manufacturer or distributor applying fake labels to substandard or counterfeit products. Holographic security stickers with unique serialisation are the industry-standard countermeasure, used by pharmaceutical companies, electronics manufacturers and luxury goods producers worldwide.
For asset management, destructible vinyl labels prevent assets from being moved and re-labelled — the label destroys itself on removal, leaving fragments as evidence. Any attempt to apply a replacement label to a different asset is clearly visible.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do void labels work on all surfaces?
Void labels are most effective on smooth, non-porous surfaces. On heavily textured, oily or powder-coated surfaces, the initial bond may be insufficient for the void reaction to work reliably — speak to us about the application and we will recommend the correct construction.
Can I have my own logo or text inside the void pattern?
Yes. We can produce bespoke void patterns carrying your company name, a serial number or any text you specify, rather than the generic 'VOID' message. This makes the label harder to replicate and strengthens brand association.
Are holographic labels difficult to copy?
A standard rainbow hologram (off-the-shelf) can be replicated by determined counterfeiters. For anti-counterfeiting applications, specify a custom origination hologram — a design unique to your brand that would require significant investment and specialist equipment to copy.
