The Real Cost of a Label That Fails Early
A control panel label that fades, peels or becomes illegible before your next planned maintenance window creates risk — both operational and regulatory. In a CE-marked machine, a missing or illegible label can constitute a non-conformity under the Machinery Directive. In a food-grade or pharmaceutical facility, an illegible label on a dosing control or CIP panel can trigger a food safety incident.
Most off-the-shelf polyester labels — and many screen-printed overlays from commodity suppliers — use a laminate construction. A thin transparent layer is bonded over the printed face after production. In chemical environments, this laminate edge begins to lift within months. In outdoor or temperature-cycling applications, differential expansion between the laminate and the substrate causes delamination within two to three years, regardless of the quality of the underlying print.
Adcal's control panel overlays use a hard coat process that bonds the protective surface layer chemically to the polycarbonate substrate at the point of manufacture. There is no laminate edge to lift. The surface cannot separate. Combined with UV-stable solvent inks and a pressure-sensitive hi-tack adhesive rated to –40 °C, the result is an overlay that performs for the full planned service life of the panel it identifies — typically five to ten years in demanding industrial environments.

Every Adcal control panel overlay order is covered by our standard 5-year non-fade guarantee, issued on the delivery documentation. The guarantee covers colour shift, surface degradation and adhesive failure attributable to material performance under normal service conditions.
For applications with specific environmental requirements — offshore salt spray, Class I chemical zones, cryogenic enclosures — we carry out a pre-production materials assessment and issue an application-specific guarantee statement on request.
